18 Years of Hosting Great Ideas
1998 may not feel like that long ago, but in the tech world, it may as well have been ancient times. Great computers cost close to $5,000 and high-end monitors were nearly as much. Windows 98 was cutting edge and the first iMac had just been released. PC gamers were playing Half-Life, StarCraft: Brood War, and Unreal. AOL was still the largest internet service provider, powering close to 20 million users (and also providing millions more with free “coasters”). Google was in beta, AltaVista and Yahoo! dominated search. And on September 10, 1998, Demian Sellfors placed a few servers in his closet, plugged in an ethernet cable, and started Media Temple.
Things have undoubtedly changed significantly since 1998. The past couple years alone have been filled with change as we continue to evolve with our customers. We expanded our WordPress solutions, refreshed and updated the Grid, and introduced managed VPS. We introduced not just a managed AWS cloud solution but brought WordPress to the cloud with our all-new Enterprise WordPress. And of course, who could forget all the events: Our SXSW Closing Parties (featuring TV on the Radio, Foo Fighters, Miike Snow, Deadmau5, Ludacris, Big Boi, and more) and coast-to-coast table tennis tournaments provided unforgettable moments for agency and enterprise clients alike.
We are all very excited to celebrate this milestone – our 18th anniversary – in our company’s history. While we’ve grown with the times, one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to web developers, designers, and enterprises that require premium cloud and hosting solutions. Here are a few words from our President, Rod Stoddard.
“Our longevity is a direct result of our unique commitment to providing only best-in-class customer service and user experience. Thank you to all our customers for their loyalty and support throughout the years, and here’s to 18 more years of bringing them peace of mind so they can focus on running their business while we take care of the rest!”
