(dv) 4.0 represents the next major revision in a product line that has become the go-to offering for (mt) customers who rely on business-class performance and reliability for their websites and applications.
Now entering our fifth major revision of the product, (dv) 4.0 is a completely new iteration of a product line we’ve had years of experience perfecting– and we think we’ve brought together the best combination of features, ease of use, performance and reliability to make it the ultimate business-ready VPS server available today.
What’s New?
To put it simply… everything. We’ve fully updated the platform with a totally new hardware platform and a completely updated software stack to bring users the most powerful and feature-rich VPS we’ve ever offered.
New Control Panel
(dv) 4.0 servers are provisioned with Plesk 10 – the latest version of the control panel that’s always powered (dv). Plesk 10 provides users with a new user interface and even more control of every aspect of the hosting environment, all while utilizing a smaller resource footprint, making more power available for your own websites and applications. In addition, the new panel boasts more robust reseller capabilities and the ability to host up to 100 domains instead of 30.
New Webmail Interface
(dv) still comes pre-installed with email capabilities for your business, but webmail has been greatly improved. AtMail webmail is now the standard webmail interface, greatly improving the aesthetic and ease-of-use for your users. This represents a huge step forward from the webmail interface provisioned on (dv) 3.5.
Upgraded Application Catalog
(dv) 4.0 includes a large application deployer powered by the growing Application Packaging Standard Catalog. You’ll find over 140 useful applications that can be installed to your server in just a few clicks, without the configuration hassles, ftp or other complications of traditional software installs.
Free Sitebuilder & Plesk Billing
For the first time, we’re including Plesk’s powerful Sitebuilder and Billing applications for free. Sitebuilder provides an easy way for users to build and edit their own websites starting with a choice of hundreds of pre-configured, industry-specific templates. Plesk Billing is an add-on you can install to your (dv) that will allow users who resell services on their (dv) to easily bill their customers from within Plesk.
More High-Performance, Local Storage
Our new hardware platform allows us to provision (dv) 4.0 instances with 50% increase in disk space for the 512MB instance and a 66% increase for the 2GB instance on high speed RAID-10 SAS drives.
Real-time & Historical Server Status
(dv) 4.0 now utilizes the (mt) exclusive real-time and historical server status system available on our (ve) server so you can get up-to-the minute information on CPU usage, server load, storage, memory and more directly from the AccountCenter, or through a simple API call.
More Efficient Virtualization
(dv) has always been powered by Parallels’s highly efficient virtualization platform called Virtuozzo. (dv) 4.0, like our ProDev (ve) Server is built on the latest and most efficient version of Virtuozzo providing healthy guaranteed resource allocations and the instant scalability (dv) customers love.
More Scalability
(dv) 4.0 now lets users scale from 512MB of server RAM up to 16GB, usually instantly, and always fully automated. Previous (dv) servers were limited to 3 levels of scalability. After reaching 2GB of RAM, the only option for customers of our older (dv) line was to upgrade into a single-tenant Nitro setup at a greatly increased cost. Today, users can scale at their own pace in 6 resource increments. If you outgrow a 16GB (dv), you can easily jump into the newly refreshed 32GB Nitro server.
Fully Updated Hardware platform
We’ve upgraded the server platform to the latest HP Proliant server gear with more memory, faster, 16-core, hyper-threaded CPU and extremely high-performance RAID-10 SAS storage.
ProDev API
The (mt) API, now in its final stages of BETA has been integrated to support (dv) 4.0 with real-time and historical server health info, reboot capabilities, and more. Read about the ProDev API in (mt) Labs.

We understand that a good portion of our customers will want to quickly upgrade to the latest and greatest. Because of the huge jump in technology from (dv) 3.5 to (dv) 4.0, and the wide variety of customer use-cases, we are unable to offer in-place upgrades. That said, migration is a relatively easy process via the Plesk Migration Manager. We’ve prepared (dv) Migration FAQs for you with some recommendation on when and how you should migrate.
