Designers Compete for Glory in NYC

There’s a stereotype designers carry. They are usually imagined as slight framed, hipsterish, thoughtful, artistic fans of typography, architecture and maybe even soccer (football). Of course, this archetype overlooks the aggressively competitive side of the design industry. Cut + Paste brings this element of the design personality to the forefront and center stage… literally.
This past weekend, (mt) stopped in to Webster Hall as New York City played host to the Cut + Paste Global Championships 2.   If you’re not familiar, Cut + Paste is a worldwide, year-long, digital design tournament ending in the big apple where the finalists face off.

30 finalists from the Global Tour competed onstage for the top crown in three categories: 2D Design, 3D Design and Motion Design.  With music blaring, judges hovering, minutes counting down on the clock and the MC shouting over an audience of 1500, digital designers race to showcase their amazing skills. It was a stressful situation to say the least, but the contestants made it through.

Congratulations to the winners!
2D Design: Dave Stolte
3D Design: Eugenio Garcia Villareal
Motion Design: Moritz Schwind

Be sure to check out the full recap and more info at Cut + Paste. C+P will be making its way around the world next year as well, so you too can have the chance to be crowned Global Champ!
