20 Years of Media Temple - 09 - 13
Today is officially the 20th birthday of Media Temple. We’ve came a long way from our humble beginnings, and we’re here to share some of the main milestones in Media Temple history in the years of 2009 and 2013. A lot happened then, as you’ll see…
Early 2009 – Media Temple outgrows their old confines and relocates to the up and coming pocket of Los Angeles known as Culver City. The eastern tip of the rapidly growing Silicon Beach, the offices in the Hayden Tract become home for almost a decade and an iconic part of the Media Temple image.
2008/2009 – Tina Roth Eisenberg (Swissmiss) was looking for new ways to help foster collaboration in New York City’s growing creative community. She hosts the first CreativeMornings, a Friday morning get together that included not just a free breakfast but also an inspirational lecture. Media Temple sponsors the LA Chapter (the third one in existence!) and hosts the CreativeMornings website as the popularity skyrockets to over 180 cities worldwide.
2010 – Three years after the iPhone shook up the the cell phone game, Apple decided to radically change the concept of mobile computing to a whole new level with the introduction of the iPad. With 256 MB of RAM and a 1 GHz processor, 300,000 were sold on the first day and became Apple’s second most successful product of 2010 (behind the iPhone). Almost a perfect laptop killer, the iPad is now synonymous with the 2010s, with an entire generation growing up watching Netflix or playing games (Minecraft and Fortnite) on these ubiquitous gadgets
2011 – Now an omnipresent part of American life, web hosting needed to grow up. In 2011 a group of web hosting CEOS and founders rallied together to figure out how to handle new issues like open access, cybersecurity, patent reform, customer privacy, the IANA transition and Internet governance. They eventually formed the i2Coalition, with Media Temple as the first company to champion this influential alliance of internet companies, and soon after, the founding and charter members joined forces to successfully prevent SOPA and PIPA from becoming United States law.
2013 – Ready for a bigger stage, Media Temple joins the GoDaddy hosting family as their premium web hosting offering to cater to creatives, designers, developers, and agencies of all sizes.
