Media Temple’s First-Ever Table Tennis Invitational
Media Temple’s inaugural Table Tennis Invitational took place last Tuesday, September 23, 2014. More than just an opportunity to show off your diving backhand, it was a gathering of over 300 Media Temple friends, family, peers and members of the LA creative community. Golden Road Brewery, an essential pour in Los Angeles’ burgeoning craft brew movement, provided the bevvies, bites, and backdrop for ping pong players and observers alike.
Practice was recommended, costumes were encouraged, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
As you know, we love to host a great party, especially when we can make it happen in our native Los Angeles and when it means gathering the community we are so proud to be a part of. This was no exception. Yoshi battling movie stars for table supremacy, spandex-clad competitors downing lagers between matches. Sonja Rasula and her Unique USA team won the costume contest in style. Our in-house DJ Illanoise (also a member of our rock star customer service team) kept the tunes pumping while an ever-growing crowd fixated on the heated engagements across table tops. Yes – this was shaping up to be a classic Media Temple party, through and through. (And if you couldn’t make it, check out the pictures and video below.)
After hours of risky play, unreturnable serves, and Gatorade squirt guns, the best of the best made the final table. Red Interactive v. Search Business Group fought it out for the grand prize and a donation to UrbanTxt. The battle was fierce, with blood, sweat, and beers shed by the combatants as these two teams fought for each point. The finale: an epic tiebreaker as Ron Wave eeked out the winning point for the trophy.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Willard Ford and his team at Flagship Agency. Alongside A+R, they were able to secure the beautiful RS Barcelona Table Tennis tables for the tournament. All participants were entered in a raffle to win one of these tables — congratulations to Angela Gollan from Ludlow Kingsley for winning!
The Media Temple Table Tennis Invitational became more than just a tournament for ping pong aficionados. All of you brought fantastic energy and camaraderie, making this one of our (and your, we hope!) favorite community events. Thanks again for joining us.
Stay tuned for the next one!
